Youth
Welcome Message from Thanuya Mohanathas – Youth Chair

First and foremost, I would like to formally introduce to you the National Society of Black Engineers Canada Inc (NSBE Canada). It is with great honour and excitement that I inform you that our organization was established as a non-profit organization here in Canada as a means to extend the impact made by our mother organization, NSBE, to the African-Canadian demographic. This upcoming year will be especially exciting for us, as we intend to take our mission to the next level. One of the most important factors of our mission is to positively impacting the community. To better cater to our African Canadian youth demographic, we developed the initiative NSBE Canada Youth.
Our main objectives of the conference are as follows: · We plan to introduce the students to the world of engineering and the endless possibilities it can open up for them. · Through a series of short workshops and competitions, students will engage in team work and critical thinking. · Students will attend Academic, Technical, Leadership and Cultural workshops that will provide practical advice from university students, hand-on challenges, leadership training, historical and cultural awareness.
The purpose of this conference is to instill within the students a sense of purpose and encouragement, which will remind them that they are capable of excelling in all fields including engineering, science, and math, as well as to motivate them to set high standards for themselves and pursue post-secondary education. The conference content has been tailored for Grades 9 – 12 students but all students are welcome – with a registration fee of $10 for both the Youths, and parents accompanying them as chaperones.
